Review: Coco Hotel Tanah Lot, Bali 2015

Finding this hotel was a great challenge. We knew it is right beside the Pura Tanah Lot, a famous attraction in Bali, and we knew that it is close to the Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort, again a fairly well known landmark. However, it took our driver more than half an hour (and asking many locals) trying to find the hotel, which could have been longer if not for a security guard who was en route and guided us there.

Jan 15 2015 to Jan 16 2015 [1 night]

The staff quickly recognised us and served welcome drinks, which tasted more like fruit cordial than real fruit juice. We were asked to indicate our orders for breakfast. It is interesting that breakfast is not buffet, but a set meal. Personally I was quite bemused as most of the hotels I've been to (with the exception of some catering largely to tourist groups) either serve a buffet breakfast or not at all.

We were also asked if we would like to have breakfast in the room, at the small restaurant, or al fresco beside the pool. We chose to have breakfast beside the pool.

The room
This hotel still uses the traditional lock and key, which is fairly rare in hotels nowadays, though I did not have any issue with it. The room was big, but fairly basic, though that's perfectly fine with me.
The design of the bathroom was rather interesting, with an outdoor rainforest shower. This was highlighted as key feature in the hotel's advertisement on Agoda, though I thought not everyone will like it.
Since we had an early morning flight and a fairly long day, we slept soundly, waking up to the morning call at 9AM but only got out of the room at 10AM.

The breakfast was quickly served once we appeared in the lobby. Despite the blazing hot sun in Bali, it was actually quite comfortable seating under the shade.
I had ordered a satay set meal with fried rice and prawn crackers, which was served together with a fruit plate. The food was quite tasty, although the serving was a little small.
We were offered drink refills throughout the meal. The manager also came to our table to have a small conversation, asking if everything was fine.

While having breakfast I noticed that besides another Indonesian couple, there were no other guests at the hotel, which was quite surprising.

After breakfast we checked out of the hotel but deposited the luggage at the front desk so as to visit Tanah Lot on a light load. Tanah Lot was literally just beside the hotel, less than 5 minutes on foot.

Conclusion
We intended this hotel to be a transit point, and it served that purpose well. Room was basic, but clean and comfortable. In addition, given its proximity to Tanah Lot, it would be an ideal resting place if you want to catch the sunrise or sunset at Tanah Lot.
