Overall, the trip to Bali had been a fulfilling one. Though given the last minute plans, there are bound be lapses which on a 20/20 hindsight could have been prevented.
The scenery was beautiful, the stunning cliffs and the pounding waves. Gastronomy wise, it was a really satisfying experience.
We had planned to hire a car on the way to Bali. Upon leaving the baggage carousel at the airport, we were approached by a man offering car hiring services.
Thanks to the due diligence before leaving Singapore, we knew that Blue Bird Taxi is one of, or rather, the only honest taxi operator in Bali. Nevertheless, I had some reservations since many unscrupulous drivers are notorious for posing as Blue Bird drivers.
We wanted to rent the car for 8 hours, since we estimate the Kuta-Uluwatu-Tanah Lot journey could be done in 4 to 5 hours, leaving us about 3 to 4 hours, which would be plenty to cover the attractions. After some haggling in English and my clumsy Bahasa
Our first stop was the Kuta beach, popular among tourists for its night life and somewhat similar to Patong in Phuket.
The beach did have an impressive view and the tides were good for surfing, though the cleanliness left a lot to be desired.
After a quick snack some not so tasty satays at a nearby restaurant, we continued to drive towards Uluwatu temple.
Our driver and guide recommended a restaurant which serves Balinese barbecued pork.
